The General Manager (GM) for the Commercial Division will lead associates, processes, and policies of the Division in a manner of excellence, in order to profitably grow market share, sustain customer loyalty, and provide for opportunities for corporate growth within a designated market area. The GM will provide opportunities for professional and financial growth to team members while overseeing the sales, operations, facilities, systems and processes within an assigned market area. This team member upholds the highest safety and professional standards in a manner consistent with both specific and overall corporate goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
Maintain operational excellence through consistent knowledge and delegation of operational procedures
Focus on overall continued improvement, efficiency and productivity in processes and procedures, maintaining integrity in purchasing, delivering, warehousing, sales flow, invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
Ensure effective management of asset utilization and asset return
Maintain all facilities (building, land, equipment) for a professional appearance
Allow for proper maintenance that will ensure maximum use of all physical property
Direct short-term and long-range planning and budget development in alignment with corporate strategy and goals
Establish short, medium, and long-term objectives
Develop and implement management reporting with key performance indicators that directly tie to key value drivers within the business and that align with corporate objectives
Maintain business unit scorecard and regularly update team member and corporate leadership on unit performance
Develop and execute business plans to achieve stated objectives
Translate business unit plans into team and team member initiatives
Support our vendor partners and key strategic lines
Close tracking and management of key commodities
Inventory levels that support sales and growth objectives as well as achieve corporate guidelines for day end inventory and working capital
Support of key strategic product usage and throughput plans
Take full advantage of vendor discounts, volume programs, and other incentives
Establish profitable strategies that maximize labor, equipment, materials, floor space and distribution logistics
Require team members follow proper safety regulations and wear necessary safety gear
Manage inventory control and integrity
Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
Maintain warehouse equipment and delivery vehicles to provide efficient operations and safe environment
Develop and analyze market information and trends in the local market
Develop a high performing sales team to drive excellence in sales processes and customer loyalty
Develop market sales plans and corporate sales support requirements which incorporate market positioning, competitive and customer segmentation analysis, marketing communications, and advertising plans
Identify new product and business opportunities based on customer needs
Achieve financial objectives and maintain desired earnings
Be the premier customer service provider of value-added services by maintaining a high standard of excellence
Improve company standing through expansion and penetration of market
Communicate expectations of post-sales service to account managers to maximize customer relationships while maintaining the company’s financial integrity
Participate in acquisition and growth activities to support overall business objectives and plans.
Participate in market development, including participation in industry shows, supplier conferences, analyst meetings, and other designated meetings.
Merger & Acquisition support to include due diligence analysis, integration planning and execution
Build a leadership team that supports excellence
Build a sales team that can win market share and help achieve sales expectations of growth, profitability and integrity
Communicate progress, goals, company direction, expectations and other information on a regular basis to all team members
Develop a productive sales and operation team by hiring, training, and providing professional development
Conduct regular 1:1’s and semiannual performance evaluations
Develop and maintain an Outlier Plan tracking high potential team member progress and opportunities for promotion
Support goals set by regional and corporate management
Maintain guidelines that support local, state, and federal laws including labor, safety, drug & alcohol and other OSHA policies
Qualifications
BA/BS Degree, MBA.
15+ years of managerial experience.
Excellent computer skills, particularly in the preparation of analysis and complex financial models.
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret market data.
Proven leadership abilities to manage a high-performing team.
