Since 1913, the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce has been the cornerstone of regional economic and community development. With nearly 1,000 members representing over 50,000 employees—from global corporations to local nonprofits—we strengthen businesses through advocacy, talent development, programs like Leadership Owensboro, and community initiatives such as the Childcare Taskforce. Operating on a $1.1 million budget, our focus is clear: drive economic vitality and enhance quality of life in Owensboro.


Position Summary


We are seeking a President & CEO to lead as our chief executive, strategic leader, and primary spokesperson. Reporting to the Board Chair and working closely with the Executive Committee, you will oversee Chamber operations, drive member value, and elevate our impact across the community.

Key Responsibilities



  • Strategic Leadership & Vision — Define and execute a bold strategic direction, aligning with member and community priorities; Innovate and refine programs to maintain relevance, quality, and impact; Strengthen partnerships across business, education, and civic sectors; Oversee organizational operations, financial stewardship, and staff performance; Lead marketing efforts to articulate the Chamber's value proposition.

  • Advocacy & Communication — Serve as chief spokesperson and spokesperson across all public, media, and political platforms; Build and sustain relationships with stakeholders and elected officials; Engage members with meaningful programming and communications.

  • Constituent & Board Engagement — Act as liaison between the Chamber, businesses, government, education, and the community; Prepare agendas and communications for the Board and Executive Committee; Motivate membership and support through innovative and valuable programming; Develop and manage the Chamber's annual budget; Diversify revenue—through dues, sponsorships, events, and non-dues sources; Ensure compliance with policies, maintain records, and support audits; Recruit, develop, and support a high-performing team.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in business, public administration, law, or related fields preferred—but equivalent experience is valued.

  • 8–10+ years of senior leadership experience (Chamber, association, economic development, or comparable).

  • Strong board governance and executive-level leadership.

  • Demonstrated expertise in economic development, advocacy, fundraising, fiscal management, membership growth, and program planning.

  • Skilled communicator with inclusive leadership and a track record of building collaborative relationships.

  • Excellent organizational, strategic planning, and public relations skills.

  • Belief in—and passion for—the free-enterprise system and Chamber mission.

  • Executive presence, integrity, enthusiasm, and political acumen.

  • Establish your presence as Chamber CEO, becoming fully familiar with all organizational and community facets in your first year.

  • Introduce yourself widely across Owensboro through strategic engagement with stakeholders.

  • Lead strategic planning and assist in refining the Chamber’s vision.

  • Identify and target growth opportunities for membership.

  • Strengthen staff cohesion and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Solidify the Chamber’s financial health and adaptive strategy.
