Clinical Nurse – Per Diem

is a Registered Nurse reporting directly to the Clinical Nursing Administrator. The position reports directly to the

ICU . Through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of patient-centered care to specific patient populations. The Registered Nurse demonstrates professionalism, adheres to the ANA standards of practice, exemplifies the Howard University Hospital CARES values, and fulfills our nursing mission and vision. They collaborate with intra- and interdisciplinary staff to accomplish patient care goals based on the needs of the patient and HUH. Participation in educational offerings and presentations is expected. Per Diem Level III Commitment: Pay: $75/hr Day Shift: 7:30am-8:00pm Participating employees will be required to work

three (3), twelve (12)-hour shifts per week . Schedules will be established in four-week cycles. Participating employees are not benefits-eligible and do not accrue PTO during the agreement. They may be eligible for compensation under the District of Columbia’s Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act (ASSLA). Employees are required to work

two weekends per month

(24 hours/month) and at least every other major holiday, including New Year's, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Holidays begin the night before and end with the start of the night shift on the holiday. They are also expected to work known difficult-to-fill shifts such as Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. The Registered Nurse: Assesses, plans, intervenes, and evaluates patient care at the bedside. Establishes rapport with patients, families, and friends. Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA policies. Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families. Documents patient care and outcomes electronically. Maintains continuity among nursing teams through documentation and communication. Delegates tasks to non-licensed personnel and assistants. Participates in performance improvement programs and unit-based committees such as education, engagement, and practice. Adheres to infection-control policies, medication administration, and controlled substance regulations to protect patients and staff. Maintains professional knowledge through workshops, publications, and professional societies. Performs other duties related to the position as appropriate. Qualified candidates will possess: Associates Degree in Nursing (required). Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred). Graduation from an accredited nursing school. Current RN license in the District of Columbia. Current BLS and ACLS certifications through AHA. 2+ years of ICU experience. Nationally recognized nursing certification in assigned area(s) is highly desirable.
