Seasonal Recreation and Parks Attendant
The City of Columbus offers a position with a pay of $15.00 per hour. Under general supervision, the role involves performing a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled recreation or parks related activities on a seasonal basis, along with various related duties.
Examples of work include:
- Acting as an attendant at various rented recreational facilities by collecting and verifying user permits, ensuring standards of acceptable conduct, and cleaning and maintaining the facilities.
- Opening and closing recreational facilities at designated times.
- Distributing, setting up, and collecting sports equipment such as volleyball and basketball nets, golf carts, and scoreboards; arranging tables and chairs; inspecting sports equipment to identify repair or replacement needs; distributing and collecting supplies; taking inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Informing players of rules concerning dress, conduct, or equipment and enforcing rules or ejecting unruly players or unauthorized persons as necessary.
- Distributing and monitoring free lunches to eligible participants in a free lunch program.
- Assisting with display, scheduling, and promotional functions at an art facility.
- Performing general grounds cleaning work; picking up debris, such as glass, paper, or fallen limbs; raking leaves or sand traps; pulling weeds; trimming and mowing grass; digging holes for planting.
- Assisting in maintaining athletic fields, playgrounds, and boat docks.
- Assisting in making minor repairs to facilities, fixtures, and equipment.
- Assisting skilled park, forestry, and horticultural personnel in the care of various plants and trees.
- Emptying trash barrels and charcoal grills; cleaning and maintaining restrooms.
- Collecting personal belongings from swimming pool participants, assigning and placing personal belongings in basket in swimming pool basket room, and ensuring proper return of personal belongings to participants.
- Acting as a starter for City golf courses; ensuring golfers get off first tee in order, golf carts are provided to paying golfers, and faster golfers play through at various holes.
- Coordinating use of recreational facility to prevent players from interfering with one another.
- Setting up equipment and sponsor banner and presenting musical groups to audience for outdoor concerts.
- Patrolling recreational facility to detect theft, fire, vandalism, or destruction and reporting damages to appropriate authority; inspecting facility premises to identify maintenance and repair needs.
- Preparing and/or completing routine records and reports.
- May drive a pick-up truck, van, golf cart, or riding mower in support of regular duties.
- May operate hand or power tools, weed eaters, pruning equipment, cleaning equipment, computers, cash registers, and/or typewriters.
- May be required to flag traffic in park maintenance work.
Minimum qualifications may include possession of a valid driver's license for some assignments.
