Use shop mathematics, trigonometry, and handbook formulas as well as outstanding ingenuity and judgement to construct tools where no design is available.Understand the various grades of steel along with characteristics. Understand concepts of hardening, tempering and annealing techniques of metals. Read complex blueprints, understand industry allowances, diagnose, and perform difficult and advanced tooling techniques on new, existing, or prototype tools.Physical effort required in handling of heavy tools or dies and standing a majority of the shift. Majority of time is spent planning or laying out work and performing machining operations. Requirements:4+ years of experience in the construction, alteration, and repair of complicated tools, dies, gages, molds, and special equipment.
