Ophthalmic Technician
University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to support their team at UPMC Vision Institute. This role will work Monday through Friday daylight hours. 5% travel will be required to other locations for coverage purposes.
Responsibilities:
- History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family. Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity. Lensometry: automated and manual. Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate. Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
- Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each. Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test. Angle assessment & dilation of pupils. Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions. Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day. Travel to other clinical sites.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
- Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.
- Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Valid CPR certification
