Ophthalmic Technician Opportunity

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to support their team at UPMC Vision Institute located at 1622 Locust Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. This role will work Monday through Friday during daylight hours. Five percent travel will be required to other locations for coverage purposes. Responsibilities include history taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social, and family. Visual acuity assessment with and without correction, distance, near, and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity. Lensometry: automated and manual. Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare, and evaluate. Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields. Ocular Motility: knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus. Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -. Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen, and the care and proper disinfection of each. Supplemental skills: color testing, glare test. Angle assessment & dilation of pupils. Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions. Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning, and sterilizing of instruments, and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day. Travel to other clinical sites.

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred. Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Valid CPR certification + Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Act 34. UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran.
