Sr Accounting Technician

is to support the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Office of Finance (OF). The Office of Finance is the steward of VHA financial resources for Veterans who receive healthcare. Continuous improvement is achieved through the full cycle of healthcare budget and accounting activities within a large financial community and external partnerships. The Senior Accounting Technician will serve as a team lead, working with other accountants and analysts to provide professional accounting and financial management services to Federal, State & Local, and other government clients.
Position Responsibilities
Support adherence to Federal, State & Local Financial laws, regulations, and activities.
Operational experience supporting a large financial organization with financial and accounting related tasks, such as analysis of financial information, financial statement reporting, and budget execution.
Assist with conducting program risk assessments, reviews, monitoring, coordination, and reporting on the Payment Integrity Information Act (PIIA).
Experience in implementing a financial and acquisition system.
Support internal and external audits, reviews, and other related activities.
Provide support in the areas of Standard General Ledger, Federal Financial Statements, and Federal budget execution.
Serve as a subject matter expert to assess products and procedures for compliance with government standards and financial management regulations.
Prepare financial reports for leadership and the customer that effectively communicate complex financial data.
Assess financial and accounting systems procedures and provide recommendations for systems improvements for accounting treatment of financial transactions.
Assist in developing tools and reports to assess risk, reconcile data, report on financial health, performance of audits, and other financial activities as needed.
Provide assistance and recommendations on financial and accounting systems procedures, reports, and other financial management requirements.
Identify alternative strategies for addressing risk.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices, financial processes and general ledger standards.
Ability to produce and deliver detailed financial reports, status reports, ad hoc reports, and briefings.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to effectively communicate in person, over video conferencing, and by phone.
Familiarity with 508 Compliance (desired).
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to successfully complete job duties independently or with minimum supervision.
The ability to multitask.
The ability to operate in a high stress environment.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Occasional travel may be required to government sites or for stakeholder meetings.
Must be able to lift to 15 pounds.
Education & Experience
7 years’ experience in professional Federal, State & Local accounting and financial management
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance or other related field (8 years’ experience may be substituted for education)
Microsoft Office Suite comfortability (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Agile / SAFe certifications a plus.
Previous Veterans Health Administration (VHA) experience
VA experience a plus.
Active VA Public Trust clearance (preferred).
Must be able to get and maintain a government public trust.
