Overview

Deputy Director, Office of Environment, Safety & Risk Management (DOT Executive IV) at the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA). This Executive Service position serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. The current vacancy is located in Baltimore, MD. Hybrid telework schedules may be available. Responsibilities

Manage, oversee, and implement a comprehensive environmental compliance program to ensure all MDTA facilities and projects comply with applicable federal and state environmental laws, regulations, and internal policies. Manage and oversee the development and implementation of a systematic approach to minimizing and mitigating the environmental impact of operations at all facilities in consultation with the MDTA’s Environmental Counsel, senior engineering, and operations managers. Assess potential risk liabilities and create programs to control liability. Oversee MDTA’s Vehicle Accident Management Program, including investigation and analysis of hazardous conditions and accidents for injury claims as well as the contributing factors. Oversee the Substance Abuse Testing Program and the Commercial Driver’s License Substance Abuse Testing Program. Manage a team of 12 employees, including two managers. Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Safety Management, Risk Management, Environmental Science, or other relevant field. Experience: Seven years of demonstrated experience in environmental or safety/risk management disciplines. Three years of this experience should include supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, and developing policies and/or procedures. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

Knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying, and ensuring compliance with environmental, safety/risk management, asset control/damage recovery laws and regulations. Demonstrated experience in effectively supervising, developing, and mentoring a professionally diverse team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to build trusting working relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse work environment. Two years of experience working in the Federal Government. Licenses & Certifications
