VP, Capital Risk Oversight

Capital Risk function is responsible for identifying and assessing the exposure of Santander US capital to events or combinations of circumstances that may impact its position or asset quality. The capital risk management oversight team reports to the Chief Market, Liquidity and Capital Risk Officer. The function ensures capital management decisions align with Santander capital policy, risk profile and appetite, preserves Santander US capital adequacy, and supports regulatory requirements. As an independent function, it escalates capital issues to senior management and reviews and challenges management decisions related to capital, including strategic planning, budget, stress testing, and capital initiatives and significant risk transfer activities. The capital risk function coordinates with Global headquarters and periodically interacts with the capital management team, corporate treasury, business lines, and internal auditors to support capital management activities through proactive independent risk assessment and oversight. What You Will Do Monitor capital risk metrics and appetite, document limits utilization, breaches, and follow up on action plans. Analyze regulatory capital reports, RWAs applications and methods under US GAAP and IFRS; assess differences and perform validation tests. Interpret complex data related to capital metrics, identify drivers of variation, and ensure accuracy of reporting outcomes. Develop capital impact analyses for new business activities, market or regulatory changes. Document review and challenge sessions and observations from capital planning, policies and stress testing exercises. Maintain a log of events requiring escalation related to capital risk deficiencies or findings. Analyze strategic capital plans and budgets, validate business assessments, and escalate unmeasured risks. Review and assess policy guideline implementations, document observations and recommendations. Review capital contingency plans and evaluate consistency of management actions under contingency events. Periodically evaluate capital rules, supervisory notes, and best practices to align Santander policy guidelines. Perform regular and ad-hoc reporting to Global headquarters, senior management, and committees. Contribute to regulatory examinations, internal audits, and remediation efforts. Manage the capital risk escalation and issue management framework. What You Bring 9+ Years Risk Management/Controls – Required. Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, risk management, or a related field. At least 4 years in a finance-related area. At least 2-3 years in market risk or credit risk areas. Experience with capital regulatory reporting is a plus. Strong knowledge of Basel capital rules and US capital regulation. Proficiency with MS Office, databases (Access, SQL Server, Oracle), and presentations. Basic to advanced knowledge in programming languages (Python, R, MATLAB, SAS, others). Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to operate independently in a dynamic environment and build productive cross-functional relationships. Ability to manage multiple priorities and develop efficient analytical solutions. Compensation and Other Details The base pay range for this position is posted and represents the annualized salary range. Base pay:
