Administers and enforces the public health laws/rules/regulations/standards of the state of Colorado. Organizes and directs the agency's ongoing functions to assure the availability of services. Monitors current events related to health on a local, national, and international level. Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, administering and evaluating programs. Implements governing body directives and policies. Monitors quality and appropriateness of services and products. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, standards of practice, policies and procedures. Employs qualified personnel to maintain appropriate staffing. Ensures staff development including orientation, in-service education, continuing education and evaluation of staff. Completes performance evaluations on subordinate staff in accordance with organization policy. Assures that skilled nursing and other therapeutic services furnished are under the supervision and direction of a physician or a registered nurse. Assures appropriate staff supervision during all operating hours. Assures the development and qualifications for professional services and the assignment of personnel. Ensures program personnel have current clinical information and current practices. Appoints and dismisses personnel at Bent Public Health. Qualifications and Experience

Physician Director candidate: Be licensed to practice medicine in Colorado within six months of hire. Graduate of an approved medical school (MD or DO) and preferably certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine or American Board of Osteopathic Preventive Medicine. Five years within the past ten years of administrative experience in public health or a closely related field, including at least two years supervising public health professionals. One year of graduate study in public health is preferred. Non-Physician Director candidate: Master’s degree in a public health discipline (e.g., environmental health, health education, epidemiology, health administration/policy, biostatistics, nursing, public administration) and five years of administrative experience in public health in the past ten years, including at least two years supervising public health professionals. Nurse candidate: Licensed to practice in Colorado within six months of hire. Medical Officer: If the public health director is not a licensed physician, a designated medical officer (advisor) shall be employed or contracted to advise on medical decisions and be available at all times. The medical officer must be a graduate from an approved medical school (MD or DO) and licensed to practice in Colorado. Substitutions: Bent County Public Health may substitute year-for-year professional public health work experience for certain academic requirements when a candidate is otherwise prepared. Waivers: Bent County Board of Health may waive minimum qualifications as found in applicable regulations, with waiver information submitted to the state board for review. Seniority level
