Overview
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Software Engineering Manager 2 to join our team in Rancho Bernardo, CA or Oklahoma City, OK. The successful candidate will lead a team of approximately 10-20 individuals to complete the full software development life cycle in an Agile software development environment. The role is a dual-hatted position that reports to the IPT Lead on the program side and the Software Department Manager on the functional side. The selected candidate will work full-time, on-site at our facility with no remote/hybrid/telework available. An occasional travel requirement up to 10% may be needed.
Responsibilities
New business acquisition, proposal, and special projects support
Support Functional Engineering initiatives
Assist with staff workload forecast preparation
Identifying and implementing new or improved tools and processes to increase team efficiency
Acquire the necessary computers, equipment, and tools to enable the team to accomplish their assigned job
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
Leads Engineering teams with program execution
Mentor Engineers on all phases of the Program
Creates, reviews, and maintains critical documentation
Strong interpersonal skills
Supports the software department, software center, and software sector in their day-to-day activities
Basic Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 9 years of related professional/military experience that includes a background in software development, OR a Master’s degree AND 7 years of related professional/military experience that includes a background in software development.
Prior experience in a leadership capacity using agile development, including participating as Product Owner, SCRUM Master, and/or team member in an Agile development environment.
Experience with the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Experience with Agile software development, object-oriented architecture and programming, software integration and testing.
Experience with at least two of the following programming or scripting languages: Java, Python, Go, C++, C#, PowerShell, VBScript, Bash, or KornShell.
Experience with Cloud technologies and service providers.
Active in-Scope, DoD Top Secret clearance.
Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
Current approved PAR to applicable program
An advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other STEM discipline.
Advanced technical management degree.
Prior experience in engineering functional management is a plus.
Proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills.
Previous experience leading a team of 5-12 employees with a record of on-time performance
Previous experience in developing proposal inputs (task descriptions and basis of estimate)
Time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent program and functional responsibilities.
Prior experience with cost account management and task/resource planning.
Advanced experience with at least one of the following databases: Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch.
Advanced experience with at least one of the following container management tools: Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, Docker Swarm, Nomad, Redhat OpenShift
Experience with application and container security.
Experience with Machine Learning Model development.
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
Experience with Java microservices, Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications, threading, intermediate object-oriented programming, design patterns, Data Distribution Service (DDS) messaging, web technologies, Unified Modeling Language (UML), database essentials and SQL/NoSQL.
Prior experience using Atlassian Tool Suite, JIRA, SonarQube.
Salary and Benefits Salary Range: $128,000.00 - $234,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
