Executive Staffing Group (ESG) has been retained to identify a Tax Director for a top Hedge Fund client. The Hedge Fund Tax Director will play a crucial role in managing the tax affairs for the company, including tax planning, compliance, and risk management. Position will ensure the firm's adherence to tax regulations and help optimize tax strategies across investment and operational activities firmwide.

Responsibilities

Lead the firm's tax strategy: planning, compliance, and risk management.

Oversee tax reporting: responsibility for partnership tax returns and supporting forms (K-1s) for hedge fund entities.

Collaborate with other teams: work with legal, finance, and operations teams to ensure tax efficiency across transactions.

Stay updated on tax legislation: monitor and interpret changes in tax laws and assess their impact on the firm.

Manage relationships: liaise with external tax advisors and regulatory agencies.

Review tax provisions and calculations: including distribution calculations, qualification requirements, and shareholder tax reporting.

Handle tax audits and inquiries: lead all tax audits and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities.

Advise on fund structures: provide advice on the tax aspects of fund structures (LPs, LLCs, REITs) and investor reporting.

Identify and manage tax risks: proactively identify, quantify, and manage potential tax risks.

Qualifications

Extensive tax experience: typically 7+ years of hedge fund tax experience with a strong understanding of complex tax concepts; Big 4 or equivalent experience.

Educational background: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or JD preferred. An advanced degree like MST, MAcc, JD, or LLM is a plus.

Required Skills

Technical knowledge: Proficiency in Subchapter K related to hedge fund structures.

Familiarity with financial products and related tax adjustments.

Knowledge of wash sale and constructive sale rules.

Understanding of aggregate allocations and partnership tax.

Expertise in trader vs. investor determination for tax purposes.

Knowledge of federal, international, and state investor reporting requirements.

Experience with tax compliance software and financial modeling tools is beneficial.

Strong communication skills: ability to present information effectively to clients, employees, and management.

Leadership skills: experience managing teams and projects, including setting schedules, budgeting, and client correspondence.

Critical thinking and problem-solving: ability to identify and analyze complex tax issues and develop effective solutions.

Attention to detail and deadlines: ensure accuracy and timely completion of tax filings and reports.

Adaptability and learning agility: stay current with tax law changes and industry trends.
