Business Development Manager – Global Regulatory, Investigations & Financial Crime (RIFC)
Clifford Chance has an ambitious global strategy which puts clients at the heart of the Firm. The Business Development (BD) function is pivotal in turning strategy into reality, working with partners, lawyers and other business professional functions to drive sustainable growth. The BD function supports the development and delivery of targeted business development and marketing plans to convert key client and market opportunities.
Role and responsibilities This role is part of a global BD team supporting the development of Clifford Chance's L&DR practice, with a primary responsibility for the Global Regulatory Investigations & Financial Crime (RIFC) group in The Americas. This is a hands-on and proactive role where you will work directly with the RIFC lawyers across The Americas, providing support on execution of BD strategy. The Global L&DR practice delivers advice across the full spectrum of international and domestic issues, with RIFC specialists addressing local and cross-border matters.
Purpose of Role You will work directly with RIFC lawyers across The Americas on client and market development initiatives, and in defining and driving BD strategy. You will collaborate with the fee-earning population across The Americas to support identification, pursuit and winning of revenue generating opportunities, connecting Partners and lawyers to the BD services available across the firm. You will work with counterparts in other regions and be a key member of the BD community globally.
Key Responsibilities Strategy and Implementation
Establish and oversee the development and implementation of business development and marketing plans, ensuring alignment with firmwide strategy.
Track progress against plans and refine approach to achieve goals, evaluating ROI periodically.
Commission in-depth research on regional product and market trends, clients, prospects, and competitors to inform strategic marketing decisions.
Oversee and manage the quality of output, ensuring Partner expectations are met.
Support the Americas RIFC group in defining and implementing its business development plan.
Work with relevant stakeholders to develop/shape BD product offerings and initiatives.
Promote Americas RIFC BD offerings and initiatives with the wider L&DR practice and the firm.
Proactively spot market trends and opportunities for the RIFC group across the Americas.
Provide tailored input into significant RIFC pitches and capability statements.
Reputation management and marketing communications
Identify opportunities to position and raise the profile of the Americas RIFC group and its lawyers.
Lead the organization of BD client events, seminars, conferences, sponsorships, and PR activities.
Oversee multiple marketing communications projects, including directory/awards submissions.
Support the creation and distribution of thought leadership material.
Client and Market Development
Apply depth of RIFC product knowledge to support firmwide client and sector programmes.
Conduct competitor, client and marketplace analysis to identify new opportunities.
Business Development Function
Work closely with the Director, Global Business Development, Litigation & Dispute Resolution & Tax Pensions & Employment to execute on strategically important Business Development function projects.
Support the implementation of the new BD Operating Model by aligning activity to teams (within and outside of BD), in line with technology roadmaps and transition plans.
Qualifications Your experience
Previous experience in professional services business development (preferably in a law firm)
A strong interest in and understanding of the work types relevant to this role
Sound commercial awareness of legal market development, particularly in relation to work type(s) relevant to this role
The ability to develop advisory relationships with partners
Strong project management and organisational skills
Excellent oral and written communications skills
Ability to work as part of a team and with lawyers of all seniority levels
Commitment to quality and attention to detail
A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
Must be able to adhere and comply to the Firm's Agile Working Policy which requires employees to work from the office at least three days each calendar week
Must be independently legally authorized to work in the United States
Clifford Chance US LLP offers a comprehensive benefits and compensation package. The salary range for this role is $180,000 - $225,000. The actual salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.
