Overview
Join the Classification Services Unit (CSU) as a Classification Services Consultant with the California Department of Justice. The CSU Consultant reviews and analyzes the department’s classifications and provides advice, guidance, and recommendations to departmental staff on classification and allocation matters. You would work collaboratively with assigned programs to solve complex problems involving classifications, reporting structures, and related issues, ensuring compliance with California civil service regulations while balancing the needs of your program.
Essential Functions
Reviews and analyzes complex requests for position movement, establishment, reclassification and upgrades.
Provides support, guidance, and recommendations to assigned programs.
Assesses the department’s existing classification plan, identifies alternatives, and makes recommendations to management based on analysis.
Reviews duty statements to ensure appropriate allocation of essential duties.
Participates in special projects such as developing new classification concepts, revising classification specifications, developing and drafting board items, and collaborating with the Labor Relations office on bargaining and harvest proposals.
Working Conditions This position has been designated as eligible for telework and is currently remote-centered. The position will, however, require in-person attendance on a recurring basis. The selected candidate would report to the Department of Justice headquarters in Sacramento when required for job functions, in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Travel expenses to the office when required are the responsibility of the employee. Telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time.
