Position Summary
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the strategic and operational leader of the Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, the region’s leading voice for LGBTQ+ and allied businesses. The CEO is responsible for advancing the Chamber’s mission of economic empowerment, advocacy, and community engagement while driving organizational growth and sustainability. This role requires a dynamic leader who can build strong partnerships, represent the Chamber on local and regional boards, and elevate the voice of LGBTQ+ businesses in Austin’s civic and economic landscape. Key Responsibilities
Provide overall vision, leadership, and direction for the Chamber in alignment with its mission, values, and strategic goals. Lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives that expand the Chamber’s impact, visibility, and relevance. Foster a culture of inclusion, innovation, and accountability across staff, volunteers, and stakeholders. Board & Governance
Partner with the Board of Directors to set organizational priorities, develop policies, and ensure sound governance. Keep the Board informed of progress, opportunities, and challenges, fostering strong alignment between governance and operations. Advocacy & External Relations
Serve as the primary spokesperson and public face of the Chamber, advancing pro-business, pro-equality policies at the local, state, and federal levels. Represent the Chamber on local and regional boards, task forces, and community groups to ensure LGBTQ+ businesses have a strong voice in economic and civic decision-making. Build and maintain strategic relationships with business leaders, elected officials, policymakers, and partner organizations. Membership & Programs
Oversee membership development, engagement, and retention strategies that provide measurable value to Chamber members. Drive the creation and execution of high-impact programs, events, and initiatives that support small business growth, supplier diversity, and professional development. Ensure programming aligns with the needs of a diverse membership base, including small businesses, entrepreneurs, and corporate partners. Lead revenue development strategies, including fundraising, sponsorships, grants, and earned income, to ensure financial sustainability. Develop and manage annual budgets with fiscal responsibility and transparency. Supervise staff and contractors, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to organizational policies and values. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Public Policy, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). 7–10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in chambers of commerce, trade associations, nonprofits, or related organizations. Strong understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and a demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Proven track record of
organizational growth , including membership development, fundraising, sponsorships, and/or strategic partnerships. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills, with the ability to build relationships across a wide range of stakeholders — from small business owners to Fortune 500 executives to elected officials. Demonstrated success in
board relations, strategic planning, and fiscal management . Experience representing organizations on boards, commissions, or community coalitions, with an ability to influence policy and economic development initiatives. Highly organized, adaptable, and skilled at managing staff, contractors, and volunteers. Comfort with event planning, public advocacy, and media engagement.
