Overview
The City of Berkeley Finance Department is now accepting applications for the position of Buyer! In this role, you will be responsible for purchasing and expediting a wide range of materials, supplies, and equipment for all City departments. You will analyze requisitions, research products and vendors, prepare specifications and requests for proposals, negotiate purchase terms, and ensure timely delivery. You will also evaluate bids, recommend contract awards, maintain vendor performance records, and monitor industry trends to recommend process improvements. This position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication with internal departments and vendors, and the ability to resolve delivery, quality, or pricing issues efficiently. Base pay range
$96,152.00/yr - $113,470.00/yr Minimum qualifications
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is: Equivalent to graduation from high school and four (4) years of professional level experience in purchasing and expediting a variety of materials, supplies and equipment, which has included developing formal specifications and sources of supply. College level coursework in business administration or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two (2) years. Other requirements: Must possess a valid California driver\'s license and have a satisfactory driving record. Application process

The exam process will include, but may not be limited to: Application review for minimum qualifications and answers to the supplemental questions Oral Board Exam Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate.
