Overview
We are seeking a creative and strategic Director of Product Design to lead the design vision and execution for our payroll and HCM platform. This role will be responsible for shaping the user experience and visual design of our products, ensuring they are intuitive, engaging, and tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The Director of Product Design will collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and customer success teams to deliver a cohesive and delightful user experience that drives customer satisfaction and adoption. Responsibilities
Design Vision and Strategy : Define and execute a comprehensive design strategy for the payroll and HCM platform, aligning with the company’s product vision and business goals. User Experience (UX) Design : Lead the creation of user-centered design processes, including user research, personas, wireframes, prototypes, and usability testing, to ensure products are intuitive and effective for SMB users. User Interface (UI) Design : Oversee the development of visually appealing and consistent interfaces, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience across web and mobile platforms. Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with product management, engineering, marketing, and customer success teams to align design efforts with product roadmaps and go-to-market strategies. AI-Driven Design Innovation : Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance design processes, such as prototyping, personalization, or accessibility, to create cutting-edge user experiences. Design System Development : Build and maintain a scalable design system to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality across all product touchpoints. Team Leadership : Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing product design team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and user-focused innovation. Customer Insights : Conduct user research and gather customer feedback to inform design decisions, ensuring solutions address real-world payroll and HCM challenges for SMBs. Performance Metrics : Establish and track design-related KPIs, such as user satisfaction, task completion rates, and adoption metrics, to measure the impact of design efforts. Compliance and Accessibility : Ensure designs comply with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and relevant payroll and HCM regulations, including data privacy considerations. Qualifications
Experience : 5+ years of product design experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role (e.g., Design Lead, Director of Design) in the SaaS or technology space. Proven track record of designing commercial-grade software tailored for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). Experience or a strong desire to leverage and integrate AI tools to enhance design processes and user experiences. Experience in a high-growth or startup environment, ideally within a company spin-out or transformation. Skills : Expertise in UX/UI design principles, with proficiency in tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD. Strong understanding of user research methodologies, usability testing, and customer journey mapping. Familiarity with payroll and HCM processes (e.g., payroll processing, benefits administration, compliance) is a plus but not required. Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a focus on mentoring and developing design talent. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers and engineers, to deliver high-quality solutions. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions to stakeholders at all levels. Education
Bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications preferred. Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing for global payroll and HCM solutions, including multi-country compliance and localization. Background in leveraging AI, machine learning, or automation in design processes. Familiarity with building and maintaining design systems for enterprise-grade software. Seniority level
