Job Description: (Contingent Upon Award)
The
Principal Legacy Systems Engineer
is responsible for sustaining, maintaining, and evolving the legacy Air Force Modeling and Simulation Training Toolkit (AFMSTT) and C2SET baseline systems. This role ensures that all legacy simulation, stimulation, and integration capabilities remain operationally effective until fully transitioned or retired. The Legacy Lead Engineer will serve as the primary technical authority for legacy code sustainment, defect remediation, urgent fielding support, and federation integration, while coordinating closely with the Government Program Manager, simulation centers, and modernization teams.
Basic Requirements: B.S Degree Relevant experience developing and sustaining AFMSTT and/or C2SET systems, models, and interfaces Expertise with cloud-based services (AWS, Azure) and RESTful architectures. 2+ years of experience in military mission planning, operations, and wargaming. 2+ years of experience in simulation training with Air Operations Centers (AOCs). Additional Qualifications:
Familiarity with Air Force Constructive Federations (JLVC, JLCCTC, BLCSE). Knowledge of legacy modeling engines (AWSIM, ABS) and their integration with AOC Weapon Systems. Experience in software sustainment, defect tracking, and rapid fielding in support of urgent exercise requirements. Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline. Responsibilities:
Document and transfer knowledge of legacy systems, interfaces, and sustainment processes Support Government and contractor teams during transition-in and transition-out phases. Legacy Sustainment & Maintenance Ensure operational sustainment of all legacy AFMSTT and C2SET training, simulation, and stimulation systems. Manage configuration changes, defect reports (CR/DR), urgent exercise-driven changes, and fielding updates. Maintain legacy code, algorithms, and interfaces, ensuring interoperability with Air, Space, and Cyber Constructive Environment (ASCCE) federations. Systems Engineering & Integration Architect and support integration of legacy systems into ongoing federations and training environments. Lead design efforts for legacy ASCCE and federation fielding to ensure continuity of training support. Provide engineering support for transition of legacy attributes to modernized systems. Operational Support Provide direct technical support to exercises, events, and operational sustainment tasks. Coordinate with modernization and DevOps leads to ensure smooth knowledge transfer and migration of legacy systems. Maintain accuracy, realism, and training currency of legacy models to support operational readiness. Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer Act as the bridge between legacy sustainment and modernization engineering teams.
