Position Summary We are seeking a mission-driven Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications to lead Sunshines marketing and communications activity and strategy. This person will oversee storytelling, campaigns, and outreach efforts that highlight Sunshines mission and the entrepreneurs we serve.
The Senior Manager is both a strategic leader andcreative hands-on contributor, managing one part-time direct report (Marketing Coordinator) and collaborating across all departments to ensure consistent, compelling communications.
Key Responsibilities Lead and manage Sunshines overall marketing and communications function, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Build and maintain strong external and internal stakeholder engagement (staff, partners, funders, vendors, etc.) Supervise and support the part-time Marketing Coordinator while helping the function grow. Develop and implement Sunshines annual communications strategy. Support recruitment and fundraising campaigns. Overall management of digital channels (social media, website, email). Create and oversee content and collateral (reports, newsletters, blogs, flyers, ads). Build relationships with media outlets and elevate Sunshines visibility across Chicagoland. Monitor outcomes, analyze performance data, and adjust strategy for continuous improvement.
Qualifications Experience: 57 years of experience in marketing, communications, journalism or PR (nonprofit experience is a plus; however not required). Leadership & Project Management: Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage a team (2 or more direct reports), oversee multiple timelines, and collaborate across departments
Writing & Storytelling: Strong writing and storytelling skills; a core requirement for reaching and engaging diverse audiences.
Design and Digital Tools: Proficient with digital marketing tools (social media, Mailchimp or similar, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar, web hosting platforms, CMS). Mission Alignment: Passion for community, equity, and entrepreneurship, with a commitment to serving under-resourced and minority communities.
