Department - Public Defense Services Job Description
This recruitment is to establish a register for future Attorney I vacancies, which serve all levels and assignments within the Public Defense Services Department, including Legal Advocate, Legal Defender, Mental Health Defender, Office of Children's Counsel, Public Defender, and Public Fiduciary. Law students in their 3rd and 4th years, who will qualify by the time of hire, are welcome to apply. Qualification for hire includes Juris Doctorate and admission to the Arizona State Bar. Job Type: Unclassified Job Classification: 3001 - Attorney I Salary Grade: A2 Pay Range: $78,500 - $149,150 annually Salary offers are based on the candidate's experience and internal equity within the same job classification. Responsibilities
Coordinate and conduct professional legal work in Public Defense Services offices, handling criminal and civil cases of entry to advanced levels. Prepare, defend, and resolve cases, working collaboratively with paralegals, social workers, and investigators. Represent indigent individuals in court, including felony, misdemeanor, juvenile, dependency, and other proceedings. Engage in negotiations, litigation, and advocacy tailored to each client's needs. Tasks include prosecuting or defending cases in various courts, representing county departments, engaging in negotiations, conducting trials, researching legal questions, drafting legal documents, and ensuring compliance with professional standards. Minimum Qualifications
