Senior Administrator, Broadcast IT Systems at American University .
American University is a student-centered research institution located in Washington, DC. This role oversees the digital media production systems, audio routing, and control systems in a media production environment, bridging the IT discipline and traditional broadcast IP disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Broadcast Systems Management: building, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading, and installing Broadcast IT systems and devices.
- Audio playout and automation (e.g., DAVID, Wide Orbit).
- Web stream encoders and monitors; electronic newsgathering, production, and content management (Burli); field audio production (Zoom recorders, Adobe Creative Cloud).
- Field and network content contribution (Comrex, Tieline, Burli, Content Depot); audio routing and control (Axia, Pathfinder Core Pro).
- Facility monitoring and control (Burk, SNMP); video production (Blackmagic, Tricaster); presentation management (AMX Crestron, Christie); digital signage and related systems.
- Collaborates with the Director of Broadcast Engineering to support systems used by WAMU; coordinates with the Director of IT and IT staff on implementation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Broadcast IT systems.
- Operations Training and Support: troubleshoot anomalies, perform user training on media production and management systems (Burli, Wide Orbit, Adobe Audition), support production needs of events and remote broadcasts, provide direct support to content creators, and respond to trouble tickets.
- Project Implementation: collaborate with technology teams to design and identify systems and platforms for content production, playout, and facilities control; provide project support to the Director of Engineering; identify vendors and products for the production suite; lead end-user training and assess efficacy of IP-based systems.
- Initiative Support: work with other departments to support on-air drives, events, breaking news, and everyday needs; strive to exceed uptime targets for broadcast signals and production systems.

Qualifications
Required Education And Experience
- Associate's degree (or equivalent).
- 4-6 years of relevant experience; basic knowledge of analog and digital audio equipment, contribution links, and satellite systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively across the organization and mentor technical staff; capable of developing and delivering training programs.
- Reliable transportation to WAMU worksites, including DC area transmitter facilities (typical within 2 hours of notification).
- Hands-on with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, differentiate colors, climb ladders, hear audio, type on a keyboard or touch screen, read schematics, and follow safety guidelines for working with electricity and RF equipment; able to work in confined spaces and communicate safety information.
Preferred Education And Experience
- Two years of broadcast and IT experience, including administration of broadcast automation and/or newsroom production systems; experience with computer networking systems.
- Experience managing a digital audio routing/distribution system (AoIP with Pathfinder Core Pro, Livewire Wheatnet, Ravenna, Dante, or TDM).
- Knowledge of FM transmitters and Studio-to-Transmitter links; familiarity with National Public Radio and public broadcasting is a plus.
- Certifications such as Cisco, A+, or SBE are a plus.
- Passion for WAMU and public media mission is preferred.

Salary
$95,000 - $115,000 annually.
