An established, rapidly growing HVAC services company in the Bay Area is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee company-wide accounting operations, financial oversight, and reporting. This key hire will work closely with senior management to drive financial performance, ensure accuracy in reporting, and support ongoing operational excellence.
The Controller will manage all accounting functions, implement and improve systems, and help scale the business while maintaining compliance and fiscal discipline. This is a hands-on leadership position in a fast-moving, service-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the company’s accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, job costing, and general ledger
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Develop, monitor, and analyze budgets, forecasts, and key performance indicators
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financing arrangements
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Partner with leadership to provide financial insights for operational and strategic decision-making
- Prepare financial reports for external stakeholders, including tax firms and auditors
- Oversee HR and benefits administration support as it relates to payroll and compliance
- Lead and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and accuracy
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or similar leadership role
- Prior experience in construction, HVAC, or service-based industries preferred (job costing experience a plus)
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and industry-specific accounting practices
- Proficient with accounting software (QuickBooks Enterprise or similar) and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent organizational skills, with a high attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
- Strong leadership and communication skills with a collaborative mindset
