The Controller will serve as the senior financial leader of the art museum, overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, and compliance functions. This individual will partner with leadership to provide strategic insights, ensure financial integrity, and support sustainable growth. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in financial management, ideally within the art, luxury, or related industries, and thrives in a dynamic, client-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and tax compliance.
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Develop and oversee budgets, forecasts, and cash flow management to support the company's operations and exhibitions.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Oversee audit and tax processes, coordinating with external auditors, advisors, and legal counsel.
- Manage and mentor a small finance team, fostering professional growth and excellence.
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making, including sales trends, cost management, and operational efficiency.
- Safeguard confidential financial and client information with the utmost discretion.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred but not required).
- 8+ years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in the art world, luxury goods, or high-net-worth client services strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, tax compliance, and financial reporting standards.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement financial systems, controls, and processes.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven track record of working with executive leadership and providing strategic financial counsel.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
