Responsibilities

  • Underwrite profitable new and renewal business to meet inland marine line targets in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority.
  • Negotiate price, terms, and conditions with producers. Own accounts/clients and develop strong relationships with producers and clients in partnership with Market Management.
  • Participate in development and execution of regional underwriting strategy for lines of business. Collaborate with Market Management, Claims, and other product lines to achieve marketing strategies, including cross-selling.
  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom-line targets. Proactively manage capacity and evaluate catastrophe exposure and programs where relevant. Underwrite International Insurance Programs as applicable.
  • Represent AzC externally to the market and involve functional areas (e.g., MMC, ARC, Claims, Operations) in the underwriting process. Maintain relationships with key producers, clients, and risk managers.
  • Ensure accurate policy documentation is issued and file maintenance is performed for each risk/transaction. Support policy administration and credit control processes.
  • Support acquisition and retention of business; liaise with MMC on market management initiatives. Contribute to key projects and participate in cross-regional activities as required.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • A minimum of 7 years’ proven underwriting experience in inland marine, with deep understanding of products and portfolio. Strong regional/local market knowledge and established broker relationships.
  • Experience as an underwriter or account executive with multiple inland marine products (e.g., construction, transportation, miscellaneous coverages, property lines such as builder’s risk, contractor’s equipment, motor truck cargo, physical damage, and scheduled property floaters).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or Economics (or equivalent) and completion of a professional insurance qualification (preferred).
  • Ability to assess inherent risk exposures and natural hazards relevant to the line of business. Capable of managing underwriting books and analyzing trends to develop portfolio strategies.
  • Ability to understand market operations and customer needs. Strong analytical skills to process complex data from multiple sources and resolve issues proactively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to persuade and present effectively. Proficiency with general office tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Willingness to leverage AI tools to support day-to-day tasks, improve efficiency, and contribute to data-driven decision-making.

The annualized base pay range for this role is $124,461 to $276,845. The base salary is one component of the total compensation package, which may include performance-based incentives. Details vary by location and individual factors such as scope, complexity, skills, education, credentials, and experience.
