About the Role
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Benicia, California. This is a full-time, onsite position responsible for supporting all facets of human resources operations while ensuring compliance with California-specific employment regulations. The ideal candidate will have a generalist background with strong knowledge of California labor law, benefits administration, employee relations, and HR best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for HR-related inquiries and employee support
- Administer benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), FSA, and leave management
- Ensure full compliance with California labor laws, including CFRA, PAGA, AB 5, Cal/OSHA, and wage transparency regulations
- Manage recruiting processes: posting jobs, reviewing applications, coordinating interviews, and facilitating offers
- Lead onboarding and offboarding activities, including new hire orientation and exit interviews
- Maintain accurate employee records, including I-9s, wage notices, and documentation required under California law
- Advise management on performance improvement, discipline, and policy interpretation
- Coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate processing of employee changes and timekeeping
- Monitor and support compliance for required notices and workplace postings
- Support the company’s culture through employee engagement, internal communications, and wellness initiatives
- Track and manage employee leaves of absence in accordance with CFRA, FMLA, PDL, ADA, and company policy
- Conduct internal audits and participate in policy updates and continuous improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of HR generalist experience, preferably in California
- Strong understanding of California labor law and employment regulations
- Familiarity with HRIS platforms and timekeeping systems (ADP, Paycom, Kronos, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and able to handle confidential information with discretion
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred but not required
