Data Management and Strategy - Senior Manager – Oil & Gas Sector at EY. Location: Houston, Texas preferred. This role focuses on leading data management, governance, and analytics initiatives for oil & gas clients, delivering data-driven insights and strategic leadership to improve operations, agility, and transformation.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Data & Analytics Leader to guide clients through analytics, data governance, and modern data platforms. You will design methods to govern the lifecycle of data assets, perform maturity assessments, and align data strategies with business objectives. This is a high-growth, high-visibility role with significant opportunity to shape digital and data strategies across the oil & gas sector.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engagement delivery and manage client relationships on a daily basis.
  • Develop resource plans and budgets for engagements, ensuring effective engagement economics.
  • Define and execute the analytics and data governance strategy for oil & gas clients, aligning with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement robust data governance frameworks, including policies, data stewardship models, roles, and accountability across the organization.
  • Oversee Master Data Management (MDM), metadata management, and data cataloging practices to ensure data consistency, discoverability, and trust.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy, protection, and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), working with Legal, Security, and Risk teams.
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of analysts, engineers, and data stewards to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Design scalable, secure, and cost-effective data architectures to support business intelligence and advanced analytics needs.
  • Oversee cloud-based data management platforms and technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS, and Hadoop.
  • Drive the design and implementation of analytical models, data pipelines, and visualizations to solve complex business problems and generate actionable insights.
  • Leverage advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to enhance operational efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Translate business initiatives into prioritized use cases with measurable ROI and manage delivery across multiple domains.
  • Develop and champion data literacy programs, training, and change management initiatives to embed a data-driven culture.
  • Communicate analytical findings through dashboards and visualizations tailored to business and technical audiences.
  • Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders across operations, IT, engineering, and executive leadership.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and oil & gas domain trends.

Qualifications – To Qualify for the Role

  • A bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in a quantitative or technical field with prior consulting experience.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in data analytics, data governance, or data strategy, preferably in the oil & gas industry.
  • Proven success in deploying analytics solutions across upstream, midstream, or downstream domains.
  • Deep knowledge of data governance, data quality, stewardship models, compliance, and policy creation.
  • Experience in MDM, metadata, lineage tracking, and data catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation).
  • Experience designing and deploying scalable data architectures.
  • Proficiency with data analytics tools and platforms (SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, Cognite, Palantir, Dataiku, or similar).
  • Expertise in advanced analytics, data science, and machine learning approaches.
  • Hands-on experience with big data and cloud platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS, Hadoop).
  • Ability to lead large-scale digital transformation engagements and manage delivery risk.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and business domains.
  • Passion for mentoring and building high-performing data teams.
  • U.S. driver’s license and willingness to travel to client locations as needed.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

  • Experience deploying data products in ESG reporting, operational efficiency, or safety compliance in industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with data mesh concepts and decentralized data ownership models.
  • Certifications in Azure Data Engineer, Snowflake, Databricks, or related platforms.
  • Experience with Data Office Organization and IT Architecture.
  • Familiarity with Digital Fluency and Hybrid Collaboration techniques.
  • Strong emotional agility to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics.
