Director of the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis / Professor at Georgia State University. Position to begin in August 2025. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science or a related discipline, with a strong, internationally recognized program in biomedical research and leadership, and a record of scholarly activity including external federal funding.

Overview The Institute for Biomedical Sciences at Georgia State University invites applications for a Director of the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and a professor faculty position. All areas of Biomedical Science will be considered, with preference for expertise in microbial pathogenesis, inflammatory and infectious diseases, vaccine and drug development in infectious diseases, immunology and inflammation. New faculty members will receive competitive start-up packages and excellent laboratory space. Outstanding candidates may be nominated as Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar, with potential engagement in translational and/or economic development efforts.
Position Description The candidate will lead the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and hold a professorial appointment. They should demonstrate leadership, a commitment to biomedical science education, and a strong record of scholarly activity including substantial external funding. A track record of establishing an internationally recognized research program and excellence in innovative scholarly research, including student success activities, is expected.
Required Experience
Academic experience on the tenure-track involving leadership, research, teaching, and service at a higher education institution, with a minimum of 10 years.
Required Education Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Science or a related discipline at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience Prospective applicants should have an exceptional record of achievement in leading biomedical research, a commitment to biomedical science education, and a strong record of scholarly activity including outstanding external federal funding. Demonstrated ability to establish and lead an internationally recognized research program with excellence in innovative scholarly research and student success activities. All areas of Biomedical Science will be considered, with preference for microbial pathogenesis, inflammatory and infectious diseases, vaccine and drug development in infectious diseases, immunology and inflammation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to lead an internationally recognized program in translational biomedical science, particularly in microbial pathogenesis.
Ability to effectively teach a variety of biomedical science courses offered by the institute.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve department or college goals.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations None specified.
Pre-Employment Requirements A criminal background check is required.
Work Hours The position may require non-standard hours (including day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend and/or other campus locations).
Salary Commensurate with experience.
