The Aquatics Director will manage the Aquatics Department, ensure goals and objectives are met, and ensure compliance with Association standards and safety procedures. The Aquatics Director will hire, train, evaluate and supervise staff and volunteers for all Aquatics Program areas, develop and manage the Aquatics Department budget, and provide leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and other volunteer committees, as assigned. Qualifications
21 years of age or older Current YMCA Lifeguarding, American Safety & Health Institute or American Red Cross or American Heart Association BLS for the Professional Rescuer, Standard/Community First Aid certifications and Emergency Oxygen Administration (Certified American Red Cross Lifeguards must obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification within 90 days of hire). Ability to maintain required certification; Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards. A minimum of one (1) year experience in aquatics with 3-4 years of supervisory experience, preferred. Bachelor's Degree, Y-USA LG Instructor Certification, YUSA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification, CPO or POOL Certification, preferred This position requires the final candidate to successfully pass an E-Verify check. Direct and supervise program activities to meet community needs and YMCA objectives; establish new programs and expand within the community; develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations. Provide direct supervision to department staff; ensure staff are qualified, certified, and meeting standards. Recruit and hire staff using screening tools and panel interviews; provide training for staff and volunteers. Maintain records for staff certifications; ensure job descriptions and performance standards are accurate. Develop work schedules, coordinate daily work, and manage timecards. Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to health and safety regulations. Conduct and ensure proper maintenance of pools; secure facilities; maintain records of pool chemical levels and maintenance. Model relationship-building; respond to member and community inquiries and complaints. Monitor and evaluate aquatic program effectiveness and participation. Develop annual operating budget for aquatic programs and manage to meet monthly, quarterly and annual goals. Identify volunteer positions and assist with recruitment and tracking; ensure committees have leadership and clear charges. Support year-round fundraising and recruit/retain Campaign leadership. Maintain safety inspections and meet Aquatic safety standards. Market aquatic programs to members and community; communicate program information clearly with branch management and staff. Ensure swim lessons follow YMCA program; create a nurturing environment for learners. On lifeguard duty, maintain continuous scanning; follow emergency procedures and complete required reports. Enforce safety standards and maintain required records; perform equipment checks. Identify ways to improve safety standards; maintain positive relationships with members and staff. Monitor aquatic area for hazards; report and address hazards promptly. Use problem-solving to supervise and respond to incidents; complete rescue and CPR as needed.
