Overview
The Banner, a Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization, is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic FP&A Analyst to support the financial health and long-term growth of the organization. Reporting to the Associate Director of Finance, you will deliver timely, data-driven insights that inform decision-making across the newsroom, product, technology, audience, and business teams. You will help shape how financial information is utilized to inform strategic decisions, enhance efficiency, and ensure accountability throughout the organization. The FP&A Analyst will partner closely with leadership to manage budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning processes. You will analyze revenue trends, monitor operating expenses, and build financial models that clarify performance and highlight growth opportunities. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in finance, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable working collaboratively across departments. You should have experience with Excel and financial modeling, and familiarity with tools such as Power BI or other data visualization platforms. Most importantly, you are adaptable, detail-oriented, and eager to apply your expertise to a mission-driven organization. Responsibilities
Support the annual budgeting process, recurring forecasts, and long-range strategic financial planning. Identify and resolve data quality issues that impact forecasting and financial reporting accuracy. Perform financial and KPI analysis to evaluate business performance and recommend actionable strategies. Build and maintain revenue models with clear assumptions to drive forecasts and scenario planning. Analyze and monitor operational expenses, identify cost drivers, track variances, and recommend cost optimization initiatives. Collaborate with the Associate Director of Finance on ad hoc projects, financial modeling, and business requests. Participate in the month-end close process, including revenue variance analysis, expense reconciliation, and reporting against forecast. Partner cross-functionally with departments to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required; MBA or equivalent is a plus. Minimum 2 years of experience in financial planning and analysis; experience in digital media or subscription-based industries preferred but not required. Solid understanding of financial principles, including budgeting, forecasting, ROI, depreciation, and rate/volume analysis.
