Overview We are seeking a Java Software Engineer with a Banking/Financial background for a 12-month contract (with potential extension or conversion). This role is located in New Jersey and operates within core banking teams and modernization initiatives.
Required Qualifications
15+ years of software engineering experience in banking or financial services, with at least 5+ years in a technical leadership role.
5+ years of strong experience working on core banking systems - FIS Modern Banking, FIS Systematics, Temenos, Thought machine, Pismo or similar.
10+ years of Java 11+, Spring Boot, RESTful services
3+ years of Confluent Kafka (event streaming and integration)
3+ years of OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker (containerization and orchestration)
7+ years API Gateway & Mediation (Apigee, WSO2 API Manager or vendor-provided gateways)
5+ years of PostgreSQL, Oracle, or other relational/no sql databases
4+ years CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins), DevOps & automation
4+ years Observability tools (Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, etc.)
5+ years of familiarity with modern core banking concepts (product factories, service orchestration, event notifications, platform APIs)
5+ years of solid grasp of domain-driven design, integration patterns, and transactional consistency in distributed systems
5+ years of solid presentation skills for senior leadership, cross-platform teams, and architectural diagrams
Demonstrated experience leading core banking modernization or migration projects (greenfield core implementation, legacy decommissioning, or coexistence strategies)
Deep understanding of Consumer Banking/Small Business Banking products and processes, especially deposits (checking, savings, CDs, interest-bearing accounts, and transaction postings)
Hands-on experience with the New Core Platforms technical stack
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a leadership role in at least one large-scale core banking transformation program
Exposure to vendor SaaS platforms or hybrid deployments and no code/low code architecture
Familiarity with data migration tooling and cutover strategies from legacy platforms (FIS Systematics or similar)
Knowledge of security best practices, authentication and regulatory compliance frameworks
Ability to lead across cross-functional teams in a matrixed, fast-paced delivery environment
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Comfortable working with external vendors, internal product teams, and architecture boards
