Overview
Managing Associate Teacher – Albany Park at Carole Robertson Center for Learning. This role assists the Director and Assistant Director in planning, organizing, and implementing education services for children, in addition to full-time classroom teacher duties. This includes developing and implementing individual educational plans for children.
Responsibilities
Uphold the NAEYC Code of Conduct in all interactions with children, families, and colleagues to maintain an emotionally safe climate.
Apply Active Supervision strategies throughout the day and in all spaces (indoors and outdoors) to ensure child safety and wellbeing.
Implement the Center’s Best Practice Schedule and Napping Policy daily.
Work with the TA, Aides, and Program Advisor to support weekly lesson plans, daily activities, field trips, and material arrangements.
Collaborate with staff to ensure program operations comply with state and federal regulations and adapt as needed for children’s needs.
Maintain a developmental portfolio for each child, including screenings, observational data, work samples, and notes.
Conduct home visits and parent conferences to discuss child development and progress; help parents develop observational skills and solicit parent observations.
Implement family-style meals and promote social and self-help skills and sound nutritional practices.
Collaborate with family support staff on identification and services for children with disabilities.
Coordinate with mental health director on children’s mental health needs.
Support children’s acquisition of social skills and participate in trainings, meetings, and parent/board meetings as requested.
Qualifications and Requirements
Baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education or child development with a Level 5 ECE and IT credential; or a degree in education with Level 5 ECE and IT credential and Illinois Pre-K certification.
Knowledge and experience in Head Start philosophy and practices, early childhood education, developmentally appropriate practice, and bilingual education.
Physical examination within the last six months (including TB test) and compliance with background checks as required.
Personal qualifications as per licensing standards: emotional maturity, cooperation with program aims, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, hygiene, and health that does not interfere with responsibilities.
Experience collaborating with parents in the education of their children.
Assist in daily health and environment checklists and in implementing IEP/IFSP as needed.
Assist in recruiting/orienting volunteers and completing required forms and records (lesson plans, time sheets, meal reports, etc.).
Oversight
Supervisory responsibility for teacher assistant and aide, including reflective supervision, staff evaluation, mentorship, and coaching.
Review contributions to lesson plans, schedules, room arrangements, and portfolio assessments to ensure compliance.
Participate in development and implementation of the teacher assistant and aide professional development plan.
Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential files; perform other duties as required.
Working Conditions
Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues; possible exposure to communicable diseases.
Ability to sit for planning and reporting and to stand, stoop, squat, and run during activities with children.
Work Schedule Please note: Staff hours may vary slightly as shifts rotate. Available shifts include:
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
8:15 AM – 5:15 PM
8:30 AM – 5:30 PM
9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
