About the Role
Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a highly motivated Drainage Lead looking for career advancement. This position primarily consists of managing Phase I and Phase II drainage analysis and design tasks for a variety of transportation projects for state, county, and local agencies. Experience designing drainage components of transportation design projects is required. This team-oriented role involves collaborating with Baxter & Woodman’s diverse disciplines and offices.
What Your Day-to-day Will Look Like
Assist with preparing proposals, scope and fee, and participate in interviews for drainage related projects.
Develop hydrologic and hydraulic models of municipal storm sewer systems.
Analyze and design stormwater facilities (open channels, culverts, storm sewers, detention basins, green infrastructure, etc.) and proposed improvement projects.
Manage/complete IDOT hydraulic reports, location drainage studies, location drainage technical memorandums, and other drainage studies.
Identify permitting requirements and prepare permit application submittals for roadway improvements and transportation drainage projects.
Assist the transportation department by managing and completing engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates using IDOT standards.
Oversee, coordinate, and provide QA/QC review for work performed by others; and communicate with clients and regulatory agencies.
Education/Certification Requirements
B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.
Licensed Professional Engineer.
Must-haves, What You Will Bring
6+ years of relevant work experience.
Experience preparing IDOT hydraulic reports and phase 1 drainage studies, including location drainage studies and location drainage technical memorandums.
Experience with roadway and infrastructure design using IDOT, tollway, and county design criteria.
Experience obtaining permits related to drainage design, floodplain/floodway, and wetland impacts, including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers section 404 and IDNR-OWR floodway construction permits.
Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman’s service area (own transportation).
Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities.
Strong written, verbal, computer, leadership, and organizational skills.
Work within a team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals.
Microstation/Geopak, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SRH-2D, StormCAD, CivilStorm, and HY-8 capabilities with an understanding of IDOT workflow preferred.
Compensation The pay range for this role is $100,000-$130,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
