MWR Motor Vehicle Operator (Grounds Maintenance Supervisor)

Overview
This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department of the Commander, Navy Region, Southwest (CNRSW), Naval Base Coronado. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the proper maintenance and preparation of the athletic fields, outdoor courts, and the landscape/general appearance of the grounds of MWR Facilities located on the installation. Responsibilities
Upkeep, cleanliness, and maintenance of all athletic playing surfaces such as baseball/softball fields, basketball/tennis/volleyball courts, picnic areas and indoor sports complex to include wood basketball court, wood volleyball courts, sauna, pool and locker rooms. Supervises, trains, informs, and directs Motor Vehicle operators (Groundskeepers), Custodial workers. Makes recommendations for performance appraisals, awards, overtime and discipline/performance matters. Operates and performs operation maintenance on all vehicles assigned to the athletic division. Transports personnel and materials to work sites; drives a TORO utility vehicle, 2-ton stack truck, half-ton pickup truck, 12 passenger van; operates a screen drag for smoothing infield areas; operates a forklift for loading/unloading; provides assistance to other departments when forklift is needed. Maintains inventory of equipment and stock supplies. Orders materials to maintain areas in good condition. Maintains and accounts for all equipment and tools, and performs general and preventive maintenance on tools and equipment in safe operating condition. Maintains required records and reports. Prepares playing fields for regulation play, including leveling infields, dragging, hosing, raking, soil amendments, and marking lines; places/replaces yard markers and goal posts/fences as required. Operates a gas/diesel-powered tractor with aerator, fertilizer spreader and backhoe. Cares for assigned areas to keep them clean, presentable, and attractive; mows grass with power or hand mowers; removes debris and leaves; operates sprinkler systems; applies fertilizers and waters as needed; repairs/replaces sprinkler heads, fencing and netting as required. Trims, prunes, and cuts trees, bushes, and plants; operates weed eaters, utility mowers, and various hand tools (wheelbarrow, sod edger, sod lifter, shovel, spade, rake, pruners, hoses, and sprinklers). Performs preventive maintenance on gas and diesel-powered machinery and other equipment used in the athletic department; conducts operational inspections on athletic vehicles for loose parts, worn tires, oil levels, battery conditions, and similar items; cleans assigned vehicles and equipment and reports inspection results to supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements
Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of a background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and background inquiry forms. Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment. Qualifications
A high degree of skill is needed to maneuver driver-operated machinery in tight, confined spaces with small turning radii. Knowledge of state, local and installation traffic laws. Skill and knowledge to hook up and align multiple connections between tractor and attached equipment. Skill in handling and controlling forklift loads when lifting and lowering loads at various heights. Knowledge to apply standard measurements and specifications to accomplish work. Knowledge of HAZMAT requirements on handling chemicals, fertilizers, and other groundskeeping and marking agents. Education
