Overview

Fire Protection Engineer - Casual and Remote at EXP. This role supports projects for our Chicago Headquarters and utilizes EXP's flexible hybrid model for engineering, design, and specification of fire protection systems across governmental, education, commercial, and entertainment market sectors. Responsibilities

Revit and CAD proficient with fire protection drawings Develop sections, riser diagrams and elevations of complex equipment and piping areas Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases Determine content of drawings and specs to meet the scope of work Edit specifications to reflect project requirements Select and schedule equipment with limited oversight Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for applications Critically evaluate contractor pricing and cost estimates Maintain the Engineering Book for the project Respond to RFIs and review submittals Understand work planning and manage the design process across multiple projects Collaborate with team, project manager and clients to meet project milestones Resolve installation problems with fire protection systems; travel to site as needed Perform site surveys independently Conduct code research to comply with local codes and meet with code officials Maintain thorough understanding of NFPA codes, IBC, ASHRAE, ASME and OSHA Write new specification sections and develop details for project needs Apply risk management procedures daily to minimize client exposure Develop scope of work narratives (SD narrative, basis of design, etc.) Write studies and reports for fire protection systems on various projects Fire pump selection and layout of pump room Direct water flow tests at hydrants or hose connections Understand and apply gas suppression, deluge, pre-action systems, and high-rise design Basic knowledge of Factory Mutual standards Analyze fire hazards and mitigate fire damage through proper design Coordinate construction activities Be familiar with building structures and materials Experience with fire modeling and simulation software Strong management and organization skills Experience conducting existing fire protection system and risk assessments Experience with wet pipe systems per NFPA 13, NFPA 14 Qualifications

4+ years of building fire protection design experience in commercial projects across multiple sectors (governmental, education, commercial, entertainment) Engineering Degree (BS Architectural Engineering, BS Mechanical Engineering, BS Fire Protection Engineering, or equivalent) preferred Registered Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) license or eligible for immediate registration REVIT MEP and AutoCAD proficiency Ability to travel to client meetings and project sites for walk-throughs Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this role is $125,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and location.
