Fire Protection Engineer to support projects for our
Chicago Headquarters . This professional engineer will utilize a flexible hybrid model that includes engineering, design, and specification of fire protection systems for governmental, education, commercial, and entertainment market sectors. What a day at EXP has in store for you
Revit and CAD proficient with fire protection drawings Develop sections, riser diagrams and elevations of complex equipment and piping areas Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases Determine content of drawings and specs to meet project scope Edit specifications to reflect project requirements Select and schedule equipment with limited oversight Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements Critically evaluate contractor pricing and cost estimates Maintain the Engineering Book for the project Respond to RFIs and review submittals Manage design process across multiple projects within the available work hours Collaborate with team, project manager and clients to meet milestones Resolve installation problems on site and perform site surveys independently Conduct code research to comply with local codes and meet with code officials Maintain a thorough understanding of NFPA codes, IBC, ASHRAE, ASME and OSHA Write new specification sections and develop details as needed Apply risk management to minimize EXP’s and client’s exposure Draft scope of work narratives, basis of design, and related documents Prepare studies and reports for fire protection systems Select pumps and accessories for proper pressures and flows; design pump rooms Direct water flow tests and understand gas suppression, deluge, pre-action systems, and high-rise design Demonstrate knowledge of Factory Mutual standards Analyze fire hazards and mitigate risks through proper design Coordinate construction and be familiar with building structures and materials Experience with fire modeling and simulation software Strong management and organizational skills Experience in conducting existing fire protection system and risk assessments Experience with wet pipe systems per NFPA 13, NFPA 14 Your Experience Looks Like
4+ years of building fire protection design experience across commercial projects and multiple industry segments (governmental, education, commercial, entertainment, etc.) Engineering degree (BS Architectural Engineering, BS Mechanical Engineering, BS Fire Protection Engineering, or equivalent) preferred Registered Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) or eligible for immediate registration REVIT MEP and AutoCAD proficiency Ability to travel to client meetings and project sites for walkthrough activities Compensation and Benefits
The pay range for this role is $125,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and location.
