Trades Specialist Plumbing Lead - Facilities Management at West Virginia University. Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for plumbing duties including pipefitting and sprinkler fitting. Perform journeyman level craftsmanship during installation of new construction and general maintenance of existing facilities and research facilities as directed. Benefits

Functions as a team leader, providing guidance to journeymen, trades workers, and support personnel as required. Follows procedures and assigns work to ensure timely completion with proper quality and quantity. Inspects completed work to ensure quality control. Ensures proper safety procedures are used. Receives work orders and interfaces with Control Center, Supervisors, Managers, and requesting party to finalize job assignments. Assists Supervisor with multi-craft projects. Communicates work schedules and goals to employees and customers. Provides continual inspection of assigned area to ensure construction, maintenance, and renovation projects are completed on schedule; recommends major repairs and assists in updating deferred maintenance. Reads and reviews prints on new and existing building projects for construction, repair or renovation; assists with information for as-built sketches of completed projects. Determines and recommends crew size, crafts, material availability, equipment, paperwork, and safety checks to maintain flow and schedule. Provides continual updates on progress of projects. Maintains scope to ensure cost control. Processes work requests, material requisitions, weekly reports, and invoices as needed. May fill in for supervisor. Able to operate computers and software programs such as building maintenance management systems and related tools. Journeyman Duties – Renovation

Fabricate, install, and modify distribution lines for HVAC, chilled water, steam, domestic water, compressed air, sanitary, sprinkler fire protection, gas, oxygen, medical air, etc., in accordance with blueprints or code requirements. Fabricate, install and modify systems supporting research equipment and distribution lines for gases, water, air, etc., per blueprints, code, or equipment specifications. Fabricate, install and modify distribution lines and connections for equipment such as HVAC units, incubators, MRI, radiation equipment, and more, per blueprints and specifications. Ensure fire protection sprinkler lines and devices meet specifications and code requirements. Journeyman Duties – Maintenance/Repair

Maintain, repair, and modify distribution lines for HVAC, water, gases, and other services; support research equipment. Maintain, repair, and modify systems supporting equipment such as MRI, PET Scan, and related devices. Pay Grade:

Must have High School Diploma or GED Must have one of the following: 2 years of general trades building maintenance experience in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, or related crafts Associate degree in building maintenance or other craft trade 2-year accredited vocational craft trades program One year of experience leading or training others Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered All qualifications must be met by time of employment Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in plumbing/pipe fitting/sprinkler trades Ability to read and interpret blueprints and safety regulations Ability to participate in medical monitoring program and handle confidential information Ability to remain calm during emergencies; work around human and animal research projects Problem solving and investigation skills; knowledge of building codes Computer proficiency and ability to operate shop equipment Leadership skills; ability to train and work in a team Physical ability to climb, bend, stoop, crawl and lift up to 75 pounds Willingness for ongoing formal training related to equipment, materials, plumbing, pipefitting, and sprinkler trades Broad knowledge of building trades Ability to adapt to varying work settings Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in awkward or confined positions for extended periods Requirements

Valid driver’s license License for Plumber, Journeyman Pipefitter or Steamfitter preferred New hires must participate in medical monitoring. Licensing for plumbing and fire protection work, and sprinkler installation licensing, may be required About WVU
