Overview
Principal Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for the research, analysis, design, development, testing, debugging and modification of software used in the electronics equipment such as VFMDs (Variable Frequency Motor Drives) for vacuum generators and air compressors (ACIM/BLDC), AC/DC Power Converters (3-?), 28V DC Valve Controllers, and W&W System Controllers for the commercial aerospace industry. The Principal Software Engineer will take ownership and/or support technical engineering teams and projects related to W&W System Components. This leadership position interfaces with cross functional groups to ensure robust, airworthy designs meeting budget, schedule and internal requirements and goals. Responsibilities
Design and implement advanced control algorithms for power electronic applications Develop control system software requirements to write embedded code for 3-phase Active Rectifier, Motor Control electronics Contribute to system design and independently develop subsystem designs that meet requirements Evaluate tradeoffs between requirements, cost and reliability in design approach Test/debug power electronics controllers; source and assembly level debugging Optimize software performance with control system engineers Collaborate with suppliers to review control software design Lead or support software design review activities Interface with vendors, customers and other departments on technical issues Independently own or lead a team for small/medium software development Review, check and approve work by peers and lower level engineers; provide guidance and training Assess standard work and support or lead improvement projects Navigate cross-functional groups within the company Analyze customer requirements and validate by analysis/modeling/prototyping or based on existing product performance Create software requirements specification and hardware/software interface control documents Create verification plan for product compliance Interface independently with technical analysts to define software design Qualifications
Bachelors or Masters or PhD in electrical or computer engineering or equivalent; extensive software design experience in aerospace Education and experience as specified: PhD with 3+ years, Masters with 6+ years, Bachelors with 8+ years of software design experience in aerospace (as applicable) Hands-on programming in C/C++, VHDL/Verilog and/or scripting languages such as Perl/Python or PowerShell Knowledge in embedded systems architecture and programming; LabVIEW Firmware experience on DSPs/Microcontrollers (e.g., TMS320F28XX, PIC, MC68XXX, X86) CAN, ARINC429, I2C, SPI, RS232 software modules; RTCA/DO-160/DO-178/DO-254 guidelines MATLAB/Simulink and PSIM; experience with design/simulation tools Strong communication, teamwork, leadership and problem-solving abilities Hands-on experience with electronics test equipment Employment details
