Overview
Director, Employment & Compliance Counsel role focused on providing legal leadership on labor and employment matters, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Reports to the Deputy General Counsel – Strategy, Regulatory and Sustainability, and collaborates with Legal, Human Resources, and other departments to set best practices and support company strategy. Responsibilities
Build the employment law function as a strategic adviser and collaborate across Legal, Human Resources and business teams. Develop and maintain positive relationships with business partners at all levels and with Legal colleagues. Serve as subject matter expert in federal, state, and local employment laws; advise on offers and separations, compensation, discipline and discharge, diversity and inclusion, employee investigations, whistleblower matters, leave issues, wage and hour compliance, restructurings, restrictive covenants, and collective bargaining agreements. Assist with managing compliance with employment laws. Draft, negotiate, interpret, and enforce employment-related agreements and create precedents across multiple states. Manage employment-related litigation and claims (including EEOC); oversee outside counsel, respond to claims, and negotiate resolutions. Identify risk areas, develop mitigation solutions, and remediate compliance issues across employment, compensation, and benefits. Assist HR in creating and delivering training programs on labor and employment topics. Partner with HR to develop HR policies and procedures for states in which the company operates, ensuring awareness and compliance with laws. Advise on HR and employment law aspects of M&A transactions and immigration issues. Assist in managing certain non-employment litigation matters, including supervising outside counsel and developing litigation strategy. Hybrid or remote work available with occasional on-site visits and travel as required. Other tasks may be assigned to meet business needs. Qualifications
Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited institution; admission to and good standing in any state bar or DC bar. Minimum 8+ years as a practicing attorney in employment law, preferably at a manufacturing company; combination of in-house and law firm experience. Strong judgment, excellent counseling skills, and a strategic, business-focused approach to complex employment issues. Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Education
Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school Admission to a state or DC bar Experience
Minimum 8+ years in employment law, with manufacturing experience preferred; both in-house and law firm experience. Location
This position is based in the Nashville, Tennessee area. Company headquarters are in Portland, Tennessee (about 35 miles north of downtown Nashville). Remote candidates will be considered; relocation may be required. About Shoals Technologies Group
