Job Description
Senior Civil Engineer – Transportation Team in the Atlanta, GA area. The role focuses on highway and roadway design, drainage design, and related civil engineering activities within WSP Transportation projects. This opportunity aims to enhance design and production skills and build client relationships within WSP and across the state. Responsibilities
Assist with project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, as well as development of construction plans, calculations and specifications. Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, hydraulics, traffic, environmental, and utilities. Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E). Assist with the development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates standards and guidelines, correspondence, and/or prepare reports. Develop engineering skills including horizontal and vertical geometry design, 3D corridor modeling, drainage and erosion control design, and cost estimating. Determine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the field, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. Perform professional civil engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules and permits. Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; prepare construction safety and phasing plans, and update infrastructure layout plans coordinating with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Develop or incorporate advanced modeling techniques and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users and transportation systems, with future-ready design standards. Work individually or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, including layout, reference points/elevations/grades, cost quantities, and ensuring conformance with specifications and permits. Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, and calculations for interpretation or presentation of findings. Maintain quality control standards for measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting. Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects. Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers. Prepare technical reports and presentations to explain research, findings, and recommendations. Assist in analysis and interpretation of field data to support action plans for risk mitigation. Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs). Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally. Remain current in the latest civil engineering techniques and practices. Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on various funded projects. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline. 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior civil design experience. Engineer in Training Certification. Experience with design teams on GDOT and municipal projects (highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, and drainage design). Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and permitting/project work. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences. Self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to learn new techniques and work independently while complying with company policies. Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office software, and math concepts. Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads). Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management on rehabilitation and new design projects. Knowledge of hazardous substance/greenhouse gas reduction concepts. Understanding of civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping. Ability to perform technical computations, interpret plans, and compare to regulations. Project management experience with small to mid-size projects, including tracking hours and expenses. Ability to conduct inspections and investigations and apply regulations and policies. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills for design and construction challenges. Ability to supervise field activities and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient work. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and safety policies. Ability to work flexible schedules and travel as needed. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Engineering. Professional licensure/certification. Experience managing small to mid-size projects. 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training (preferred). First Aid and CPR training (desired). Job Information
