Molex
Sr Optical System Engineer (Optical Transmission System)
Molex, Fremont, California, us, 94537
Overview
Molex possesses a rich heritage in the optical industry. We provide the highest performing and field-proven optical solutions from components, modules to integrated line-cards. We provide cutting edge wavelength management and amplifier technologies. Our comprehensive optical, mechanical, electrical and software integration capabilities enable us to serve the needs of high-density, high-bandwidth, and flexible optical networks. Our team in Fremont is hiring an experienced Sr Optical System Engineer to join our optical transmission team. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for developing optical transmission system simulations for the optical DWDM network. The Optical System Engineer will work with customers on their technical needs and develop system modelling and simulation of the physical transport layer of various fiber-optic communication systems. We develop cutting edge network components and modules, such as high speed Optical Transceivers, DWDM/WDM Filters, Optical Amplifiers, Raman Amplifiers, Dynamic Gain Equalizer (DGE) and Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS). What You Will Do Conduct system modelling and simulation of the physical transport layer of various fiber-optic communication networks to support customers and internal development projects. Identify best use of Molex cutting-edge optical network components and modules, such as high speed Optical Transceivers, DWDM/WDM Filters, Optical Amplifiers, Raman Amplifiers, Dynamic Gain Equalizer (DGE), and Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS). Study various aspects of existing and potential future optical components including fibers to select techniques suitable for modeling nonlinear propagation of optical signals with advanced modulation formats. Evaluate SNR, OSNR, BER, Q-factor, OSNR penalty and Q-penalty of the transmission system, and provide mitigation and component improvement recommendations on optical impairments (including filtering, chromatic dispersion, PMD, PDL, crosstalk, nonlinearities, etc.). Develop system design rules, link-level optical line system control algorithms, and other innovative ideas for communication system improvements. Develop and maintain an optical transmission system testing bed for full characterization of optical components and modules as well as system performance measurement for optimization. Perform validation simulations and maintain improvements of simulation modelling. Support technical discussions with customers for best use of Molex solutions and products. Assess and review designs and project activities to ensure compliance with customer requirements and development guidelines. Troubleshoot customer field network system issues and provide technical support for field operations, including issue investigation, log analysis, and resolution of optical network problems. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) Ph.D. in Optical Engineering or Physics, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. At least 3 years of experience in simulating and modeling of systems and components for optical communications (academia and industry). At least 3 years of hands-on experience operating and maintaining DWDM optical networks. Hands-on experience with: DWDM systems, coherent optical transmission, optical amplification technologies (EDFA, Raman), optical protection schemes, and pluggable optics and transponders. Hands-on experience with optical test equipment for troubleshooting and validation, including OTDR, OSA, BERT, and optical power meters. For this role, we anticipate paying $150,000 - $200,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form. At Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs.
