The Director, Technical Accounting and Reporting is a leading role in our Finance organization. They will influence our critical accounting policies and own both internal and external financial reporting. They possess demonstrated expertise in the specialized fields of technical accounting, equity administration, and SEC reporting. They have a high propensity to take on new responsibilities in a rapid-growth environment to advance within the finance team. The role requires onsite presence for 2 days in Menlo Park, CA. Responsibilities
Lead the company’s technical accounting and reporting team of 3+ technical gurus Interface with Management on complex technical accounting matters involved in developing the company’s position on complex, significant, unique, and judgmental accounting topics including preparation of the related technical accounting memos and related disclosures Research technical accounting and disclosure issues, document and present recommendations to Management and Auditors Proactively monitor current accounting and reporting trends and propose changes to management for discussion Lead the Company’s efforts to implement new or revised accounting pronouncements Lead internal and external financial reporting function to ensure financials are prepared, reviewed and delivered timely and accurately and disclosures are complete and accurate in accordance with US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations Lead the Company’s stock-based compensation accounting function, including collaboration with legal and HR, overseeing administration of the program by external consultants, and drafting and filing Form 3s, Form 4s and Form 144s as required within Workiva Adhere to internal and external review and filing deadlines, including tracking and communication of status Review draft contracts and educate stakeholders on accounting implications; timely propose changes to standardize/simplify accounting for such contracts Lead annual audit and quarterly reviews, including preparation and review of analytical review documents, to ensure timely and efficient fulfillment of all requests Partner with business process owners to maintain a strong internal control environment and make recommendations to simplify, streamline and/or automate the process and controls while meeting control objectives Provide leadership and training in maintaining and enhancing a SOX compliant control structure Lead and participate in special projects as necessary Demonstrate leadership attributes and contribute to team building and culture Preferred Qualifications
At least 15 years of highly technical accounting and reporting experience in a mix of medium to large publicly-listed companies and a Big 4 public accounting firm; preference for Life Science industry experience Experience with Workiva is required Experience with NetSuite, Intelligize and Equity Edge online software is a plus BA/BS degree in Accounting or equivalent Active US CPA certification required Strong knowledge of US GAAP with experience with SEC reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements Strong knowledge of and experience applying ASC 842, ASC 718, ASC 230, ASC 280, ASC 260, ASC 606, ASC 805 and ASC 350-40 Ability to lead complex projects across business groups and functions Ability to coordinate third-party consultants on critical accounting and reporting projects Attention to detail and exceptional organizational and project management skills Must be able to effectively manage critical deadlines Self-starter with a positive impact mindset Experience mentoring and coaching team members Track record of high performance in a fast-paced environment Strong day-to-day project management skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to work well in a team and independently Expected full time annual base pay scale for this position is $187K-$249K. Actual base pay will consider skills, experience and location. Based on the role, colleagues may be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan tied to company and individual performance, or an incentive plan. We also offer a long-term incentive plan to align company and colleague success over time.
