Actuary - Reserving Overview
Reporting to the Head of Reserving - Casualty, the Actuary - Reserving will be responsible for supporting reserve reviews and related activities, including communication to stakeholders, ad-hoc projects and process improvement efforts. Responsibilities
Perform reserve reviews under the direction of the Head of Reserving - Casualty and prepare related reports, summaries, and ad-hoc analyses/views of results. Interact with various stakeholders including finance, claims, underwriting and pricing departments to determine holistic views of reserves. Assist in the preparation of the year-end reporting, including Actuarial Opinions, Actuarial Reports, and other GAAP and statutory regulatory reporting. Evaluate current approaches and propose improvements to all stages from data collection to final reporting, with the goal of automating and increasing the efficiency of the reserving department. Assist in the development and training of other Reserving staff. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or related field of study. 5+ exams of the Casualty Actuarial Society pursuing credentials. 5+ years of property/casualty experience, preferable with commercial lines. Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences including executive management. Ability to execute and lead concurrent projects. Ability to work independently, but understand place within a team environment, and collaborate appropriately to achieve the best product. Detail-oriented and able to quickly evaluate the accuracy of information. Proficient in Microsoft Office products. Demonstrated experience with various data software such as SQL, R, Python, or VBA Experience with ResQ preferred. Salary and Benefits
The salary range for the
Actuary - Reserving
role provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, all employees are eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well as a generous benefits package. Chicago:
$125,500 - $149,200 NYC:
$136,900 - $163,000 Additional information
While this role is ideally suited for candidates with 5+ years of actuarial reserving experience, we will also consider early-career actuaries (Actuary Analyst - Reserving) with strong technical skills and demonstrated exam progress.
