Complex Claims Consultant - Private Not-For-Profit D&O, Fiduciary and EPL. CNA Financial Lines has an opening for a Complex Claims Consultant handling Private D&O, Fiduciary and Employment Practice Liability (EPL) Claims. This individual will work with insureds, attorneys and brokers regarding the handling and/or disposition of mid to high severity claims. This role may be based in Chicago, Glastonbury, Lake Mary, Wyomissing, or NYC area (hybrid work environment; location preferences considered). Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Manages an inventory of highly complex Financial Lines claims, with large exposures that require specialized technical expertise and coordination, verifying policy coverage, conducting investigations, developing and applying resolution strategies, and authorizing disbursements within authority limits. Ensures exceptional customer service by managing all aspects of the claim, interacting professionally, providing timely updates, and responding promptly to inquiries. Verifies coverage and establishes timely reserves by reviewing policy language and partnering with coverage counsel on complex matters, estimating potential claim valuation, and following claim handling protocols. Leads focused investigations to determine compensability, liability and damages by gathering contracts and other documents, taking statements from involved parties, and working with experts as necessary. Develops and executes a claim resolution strategy in collaboration with internal and external partners, including reserve management, negotiating settlements, partnering with counsel on complex litigation, and authorizing payments within scope of authority. Establishes and manages claim budgets, delivering high quality service efficiently and ensuring timely resolution. Identifies subrogation/salvage opportunities or potential fraud and refers matters to appropriate resources for further investigation. Maintains quality standards by ensuring adherence to company protocols, accurate documentation, and timely resolution and payment of claims. Keeps senior leadership informed of significant risks and losses with loss summaries and succinct presentations. Maintains subject matter expertise and compliance with state/local regulatory requirements by staying current on applicable laws, regulations and trends for the line of business. Mentors and develops less experienced claim professionals and may deliver training as needed. May perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience; JD preferred. Typically a minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience, preferably in claim handling. Thorough knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, products, policy language, coverage, and claim practices. Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written. Analytical and investigative mindset with strong judgment to resolve complex problems and ambiguous situations. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; strong time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex settlements and interpret complex specialty insurance policies and coverage. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning business-related software; ability to value diverse opinions. Employment Type & Location

In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $72,000 to $141,000 annually.
