Overview

Position: Managing Director, Impact Capital Lab at Boston Impact Initiative (BII). This is a strategic leadership role focused on scaling BII’s impact in the impact investing field through training, education, ecosystem building, and public engagement. The MD will oversee the Lab’s strategy, partnerships, fundraising, and operations, and serve as a public ambassador for reimagining a financial system that works for everyone. About Boston Impact Initiative (BII)

Boston Impact Initiative (BII) is a nonprofit impact investment fund founded in 2013, working to build a regenerative and equitable economy. We invest integrated capital—equity, debt and grants—in social enterprises and community-owned and controlled real estate to build wealth and asset-building opportunities, especially in diverse communities. As a new CDFI, we manage two funds: BII Fund I (established 2017) and Fund II (launched 2022). We also offer impact investing education and training, including the Advancing Regenerative Capital (ARC) Fellowship. BII is growing to 15 employees in 2025 and seeks a strategic leader for the Impact Capital Lab. Position Summary

The Managing Director of Impact Capital Lab will lead this dynamic initiative with vision, creativity, and execution power. This is a strategic leadership role focused on scaling BII’s impact through training, ecosystem building, and public engagement. The MD will also support organizational excellence and sustainability. Reporting to the CEO, the MD will oversee the Lab’s strategy, partnerships, fundraising, and operations, and will serve as a public ambassador for advancing equitable capital deployment. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

Design and implement a multi-year strategic roadmap for the Impact Capital Lab aligned with BII’s mission and integrated capital approach, ensuring equity, community leadership, and systemic change. Lead and evolve key program areas: training for emerging impact fund managers, funder education, advisory services to fund managers and institutions, and advocacy/ecosystem engagement. Oversee design, launch, and fundraising for a $5M First Mover Fund to invest in cohort funds focused on community-based impact.

Partnerships & Ecosystem Leadership

Cultivate partnerships with foundations, capital intermediaries, CDFIs, fund managers, public sector leaders, and community groups. Represent the Lab and BII at national and regional convenings; participate as a speaker and contribute to panels. Publish thought pieces in collaboration with the CEO and team on capital deployment, business support, and community development. Collaborate with peers to advance shared impact infrastructure and knowledge sharing. Oversee design of BII's policy framework and advocacy strategy.

Resource Development & Sustainability

Lead fundraising and resource mobilization for the Lab’s work, including grants, sponsorships, and earned revenue. Maintain relationships with philanthropic partners and supporters. Design sustainable business models for Lab offerings and services, including earned revenue streams.

Leadership & Management

Build and manage a small, high-performing team of staff, consultants, and trainers. Oversee financial management, operations, and impact reporting for the Lab. Coordinate with BII leadership to align structure, processes, and culture with strategic goals and enhance innovation across functions.

Impact Investing Knowledge: fluency in integrated capital approaches, fund design, and values-aligned investing. Partnership & Ecosystem Building: strong ability to build authentic cross-sector relationships and coalitions. Fundraising Experience: expertise in philanthropic and investment capital fundraising and stakeholder stewardship. Program & Team Management: experience managing people, budgets, and complex programs with discipline and care. Strong Communication Skills: effective public speaker and translator of complex concepts into accessible language. Experience with Organizational Design and Development: demonstrated experience aligning structure, processes, and culture with strategic goals. Preferred Attributes
