Staff AI Engineers are integral to the Data & AI team at WillowTree. To maintain collaboration, this role will require in-office presence in a hybrid capacity on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This role can be located in Boston, MA; Columbus, OH; Charlottesville, VA; or Durham, NC. Responsibilities
Apply knowledge of AI systems and software engineering to design, develop, and deploy solutions that address business problems. Partner with Data Science and Data Engineering to tackle complex technical challenges and utilize the latest Data & AI techniques. Own the implementation and optimization of applied AI components to meet project needs at scale. Manipulate generative AI models (including LLMs) to create prompts and solutions for specific use cases. Develop AI solutions with adherence to industry best practices, including moderation, security, monitoring, and compliance standards. Apply Responsible AI concepts throughout the solution lifecycle. Lead design, measurement, and evaluation of AI model outputs, developing standard and custom metrics aligned with business objectives. Translate AI research and PoCs into production-ready features that integrate with larger systems. Drive the selection and application of appropriate evaluation metrics to ensure robust, unbiased AI solutions that meet performance standards. Qualifications
Demonstrable experience in applied Generative AI, including LLMs, multi-modal models, and AI agents. Strong understanding of trade-offs between generative AI models and the ability to select the right model for a given use case. Experience with data embeddings and vector databases; understanding trade-offs and how to optimize data ingestion. Experience architecting and developing solutions that integrate generative AI with traditional software with minimal oversight. Proficiency in Python and familiarity with multiple frameworks and patterns. Experience building and testing server-side platforms for API development and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Hands-on experience deploying software on leading cloud platforms with CI/CD pipelines. Skilled in crafting prompts for complex AI systems to meet diverse requirements. Familiarity with testing and evaluating AI systems using state-of-the-art methods. Experience using cloud-based AI services (e.g., AWS Bedrock, Azure AI Services, Vertex AI). Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with developers across areas. Ability to communicate complex AI solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Equal Opportunity Employer
