Job Summary
Reporting to the AVPUESS, the Director of General Education and Curricular Initiatives (GenEdCI) manages and advances the design, implementation, and integration of undergraduate curricular initiatives and academic policies within the VPUESS purview. Initiatives may involve General Education/Core IMPACTS, the Georgia Legislative Requirements (GLRs), undergraduate academic policies, minors and certificates, and dual enrollment. The position may supervise professional and/or student staff and may teach an undergraduate General Education/Core IMPACTS course contingent on approvals.
Contingent on approvals, this position may be structured as a 75% supplementary administrative leadership appointment in OUESS with a 25% appointment in a GT academic unit or another GT unit.
Responsibilities The Director engages with academic and administrative leadership, faculty, advisors, staff, students, and other stakeholders to advance the OUESS mission, the Institute Strategic Plan (ISP), and the priorities of the VPUESS and AVPUESS. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Under the AVPUESS leadership, support GT general education policies, practices, and processes aligned with GT and USG policies, including:
Updating GT general education policies and serving as a point of contact for leadership, faculty, and advisors
Serving as a standing ex officio member of the IUCC General Education & Policy Subcommittee (GEPS)
Collaborating with the Office of Academic Effectiveness on general education assessment
Preparing accreditation narratives and maintaining the UC General Education website
Attending relevant meetings or conferences
Oversee GT implementation of the GLRs, including data analysis and collaboration with GT and USG partners to maintain and update implementation
Prepare narratives and reports on the GLRs and maintain the UC GLR webpage
Participate in the Undergraduate Curriculum Operations & Advisory Team (UCOAT) and contribute to its initiatives
Serve as a standing guest on the Student Rules and Regulations Committee to provide input on undergraduate policies and communicate changes
Support or lead other GT/USG undergraduate curricular initiatives as assigned
Coordinate OUESS committees (e.g., Athletic Academic Steering Committee) and document meeting notes
Compile notes on curricular policy initiatives and communicate updates to advisors and leadership networks
Lead semi-annual OUESS Curricular Updates for academic advisors
Initiate analyses of policies and data to propose improvements aligned with the ISP and OUESS mission
Prepare reports, websites, and documentation on undergraduate curricular matters as requested
Perform other special projects and duties as assigned
Teach one General Education/Core IMPACTS course per academic year, contingent on approvals
Participate as a member of the OUESS leadership team and provide leadership support as requested
Required Qualifications Internal (GT) Applicants: Current full-time GT appointment as tenured/tenure-track faculty or as an academic professional at any rank.
External Applicants: Qualified for appointment at GT as an academic professional at any rank as outlined in the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook section 3.2.2.
This position vacancy is open rank. Final offer depends on candidate qualifications aligned with Non-tenure Track Academic Faculty ranks.
Academic Professional: Terminal degree with significant related experience or promotion from Associate Academic Professional. Senior Academic Professional: Terminal degree, evidence of superior performance, peer recognition, 5+ years as Academic Professional. Principal Academic Professional: Terminal degree with extensive leadership and impact; 6+ years as Senior Academic Professional.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with curricular initiatives and policy implementation
Experience developing proposals to improve systems and processes in higher education
Experience teaching in the General Education curriculum and academic advising
Commitment to OUESS, the ISP, and the VPUESS/AVPUESS goals
Strong understanding of undergraduate curriculum design and General Education principles
Excellent verbal and written communication and collaborative skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to work with GT/USG stakeholders
Ability to use technologies and software common in professional offices
Proposed Salary
Compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's background and experience.
