Director of Labor Relations – Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director, Labor Relations to lead our efforts in promoting a positive, compliant, and respectful workplace. This role will oversee labor relations functions, including grievance resolution, workforce development, and policy implementation, while fostering a culture of excellence and compliance. Director of Labor Relations Responsibilities
Oversee labor relations functions, including grievance resolution, workforce development, and policy implementation Foster a culture of excellence and compliance, ensuring regulatory requirements are met Maintain relationships with regulatory and industry partners, including maritime academies and USMMA Conduct audits, review reporting protocols, and update training materials to ensure compliance Foster a respectful and supportive environment for employees, including periodic check-ins and records management Coordinate cadet assignments and manage onboarding documentation and credential verification Oversee Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with maritime academies, ensuring adherence to agreed terms and regular review Support shipboard leadership in mentoring cadets and resolving training-related issues Investigate, track, and respond to union grievances and crew corrective and disciplinary actions Prepare documentation for arbitration and support broader labor strategy through grievance trend analysis Director of Labor Relations Position Requirements
Bachelor\'s degree in a related field (e.g., labor relations, human resources, industrial relations) 10-15 years of documented success in the Maritime industry, preferably in a US Flag Operations setting 2-5 years of prior work experience directly related to the crewing of ships or vessel operations Experience as a shipboard officer and in a union environment Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products Fluent in English Working knowledge of Coast Guard regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and vessel operations About Core Group Resources
