$151,400.00/yr - $200,000.00/yr Jacobs is expanding its Transmission & Distribution (T&D) operations in North America to tackle decarbonization and utility modernization. The successful candidate will work with our regional and global T&D delivery teams to support utility/developer clients and operations teams as we expand our energy transition portfolio. What you will do
As a Principal Substation Engineer, you will: Interface with utility/developer clients on development of Substation design deliverables for utility upgrades including greenfield/brownfield & AIS/GIS substations, offshore wind facilities, and developer interconnection facilities. Provide engineering overview, expertise, and direction as an independent technical advisor representing owner’s interests on major programs and overhauls of T&D networks. Develop Substation design deliverables fully and independently as required for projects on-time and within budget; may act as Owner’s Consultant/Owner’s Engineer (OC/OE). Mentor team members across North America and globally with Jacobs Global Integrated Delivery (GID). Support sales and proposal preparation processes and ensure high-quality delivery of services to clients. Engage with professional societies (IEEE, PES, etc.) and participate in industry conferences and networking events to promote company services and stay current on industry innovations. What you’ll need
Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related engineering discipline Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within United States Minimum 12 years of direct Substation design experience with utility or consulting organization Advanced knowledge of high voltage substation components (Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Disconnect Switches, Circuit Switchers, Capacitor Banks, Station Service Transformers, Reactors, Rigid Bus, GIS, Switchgear buildings, Control house, underground cable potheads, etc.) Experience in development of substation designs from conceptual through IFC drawings (general arrangement, conduit/trench, grounding, BOM, schedules, construction details) Familiarity with grounding system design and lighting and lightning protection designs for substations Ability to perform substation AC/DC Station Service calculations and studies, voltage drop calculations Experience in development and review of equipment vendor specifications (control house/switchgear building, construction/commissioning specifications) Demonstrated ability to perform QA/QC of design calculations, construction drawings, and specifications Familiarity with CAD platforms such as Autodesk or Bentley products Experience as an owner’s representative is strongly preferred Ability to perform project scoping, prepare task orders, design review, and owner’s verifications Ability to perform field visits and provide engineering support during construction Willingness to train, mentor junior staff and develop training modules; set up processes for the group Strong communication and technical writing skills; good interpersonal and presentation abilities Additional information
The base salary range for this position is $151,400.00 to $200,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and factors such as job-related skills, experience, and education or training.
