About the Role We are looking for an experienced
Android AOSP Developer
with a strong background in Android Framework and system-level development. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on low-level Android components and will contribute to delivering new features that integrate deeply with the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This role involves working across multiple layers of the Android stack—from the system UI to framework APIs and backend services. While we don\'t expect expertise in all areas, we value candidates with solid experience in at least some of the components listed below.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement new features within the Android AOSP stack.
Make changes across the Android Framework (e.g., PackageManager, ActivityManager, WindowManager, LauncherApps).
Modify or extend existing system-level UI components (SysUI), such as Launcher, Widgets, Shortcuts, Recents, and Notifications.
Add or update APIs to support new functionality.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to make coordinated changes across front-end UI and backend systems.
Debug, test, and optimize system components to ensure stability and performance.
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with Android AOSP development (custom ROMs, OEM-level device development, or deep platform changes).
Familiarity with Android build system and custom ROM development.
Experience with Android Framework APIs as well as the low-level Android services and inter-process communication (IPC), such as:
LauncherApps
PackageManager
ActivityManager
WindowManager
Familiarity with System UI (SysUI) development:
Launcher
Widgets
Shortcuts
Recents
Notifications
Other SysUI surfaces
Proficiency in Java and preferably also Kotlin
Experience working on API development (system APIs, etc.)
Strong debugging and performance optimization skills
Nice to Have: Contributions to open-source Android projects
